Overview

Meadow is the open grassland that generates on mountain plateaus and shoulders, and it is one of the prettiest and most practical places to build in the game: flat or gently rolling grass at altitude, thick with tall grass and flowers, with long sight lines in every direction and a view down onto whatever is below. Meadows generate with a single large oak or birch tree standing alone, and that tree almost always carries a bee nest, so a meadow is the most reliable place to find bees without hunting a flower forest. Donkeys, sheep, rabbits and horses spawn here in numbers, which makes it the natural place to catch a mount early. Pillager outposts generate in meadows, so an unexplored one may come with a tower of crossbowmen; that is also where goat horns and the outpost loot chest come from. Because meadow counts as a mountain biome, emerald ore generates in the stone below it, and the altitude puts you close to the iron band as well. Meadow borders grove, cherry grove, forest, and the snowy slopes above it.

Bee nests from the lone tree, horses and donkeys for transport, flowers and tall grass for dye and seeds, emerald ore underneath, and the flattest high ground in the game to build on.

Meadow is a temperate biome that generates in the Overworld. Its base temperature of 0.5 places it in the temperate band, which controls whether water freezes, whether it rains or snows, and which passive mobs are allowed to spawn there.

Weather reaches Meadow: it rains during storms, so crops grow and cauldrons fill on their own.

2 generated structures can appear here, among them Village and Pillager Outpost.

4 mobs name Meadow specifically among their spawn biomes: Bee, Donkey, Horse, and Rabbit.

Mountain biomes reach the highest terrain in the game. Emerald ore generates only here, goats and powder snow are mountain-exclusive, and the height means a fall is a more realistic threat than a mob.

How to get it

Meadows generate on mountainsides between roughly Y 100 and Y 160. Walk uphill from any forest or plains until the trees stop and the grass opens out; cherry grove often sits directly beside one.

Tips

  • Move the meadow's bee nest with a Silk Touch tool at night, when all 3 bees are inside, and rebuild the hive at home.
  • Horses here spawn in herds of 2 to 6; tame several and compare speed before you commit a saddle to one.
  • Check for a pillager outpost before building — they spawn pillagers continuously within about 70 blocks of the tower.
  • Meadow grass drops wheat seeds at the usual rate, and the altitude means your farm is safe from most cave spawns.

Climate and generation

Meadow has a base temperature of 0.5, which puts it in the temperate band. Temperature is not a thermometer reading — it is the single number that decides snow versus rain, whether water freezes over, and what colour the grass renders.

Above 0.15 water stays liquid and any precipitation falls as rain.

Mobs in Meadow

Bee, Donkey, Horse, and Rabbit name Meadow specifically as a spawn biome, so this is where you go to find them.

On top of those, the mobs that spawn in open terrain anywhere in the Overworld can appear here too, given the right light level. Mobs that only come from a structure or a spawner — breezes from trial chambers, blazes from fortresses, evokers from mansions — are deliberately not in this list.

Structures found here

2 structures can generate in Meadow: Village and Pillager Outpost.

  • Village — Villages generate in five architectural variants — plains, desert, savanna, taiga and snowy — each built from local materials with its own house shapes, and the variant is fixed by the biome of the village centre even if it sprawls across a border.
  • Pillager Outpost — A dark oak watchtower flying an ominous banner, surrounded by tents, log piles, and often a cage holding an iron golem or, beneath the tower, cages containing allays.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find Meadow?

Meadow generates in the Overworld. A locate command finds the nearest one instantly; without cheats, exploring in one direction and watching the F3 screen's biome line is the reliable method.

What spawns in Meadow?

Bee, Donkey, Horse, and Rabbit spawn here specifically, and the usual Overworld mobs can appear given the right light level.

Does it rain in Meadow?

Yes — as rain. Cauldrons fill on their own during a storm and farmland stays hydrated.
