Overview

Cherry grove is the pink biome added in 1.20, and everything about it comes from one tree. Cherry trees grow with a pale bark and a canopy of bright pink leaves that constantly shed falling petal particles, and the ground beneath them is covered in pink petals — a layered block that grows up to 4 petals per block and gives 1 pink dye each, making it the cheapest pink dye in the game by a wide margin. The biome generates on the gentle slopes and plateaus of mountain terrain, usually where a meadow would otherwise be, so the ground is grass, the terrain rolls rather than climbs, and the views are long. Pigs, sheep, rabbits and bees all spawn here, and bee nests generate on cherry trees at a much higher rate than in an ordinary forest. Because cherry grove is classified as a mountain biome, emerald ore generates underneath it — the same restricted distribution that windswept hills and jagged peaks get, peaking around Y 236. It borders meadow, grove, forest and windswept hills, and it is the only source of cherry wood, which is the pinkest building material Minecraft has.

Cherry wood for building, pink petals for the cheapest pink dye, bee nests for honeycomb, and emerald ore in the stone below — cherry grove counts as a mountain biome for the emerald distribution.

Cherry Grove sits in the temperate band of Minecraft's biome table, generating in the Overworld at a base temperature of 0.5.

Weather reaches Cherry Grove: it rains during storms, so crops grow and cauldrons fill on their own.

One mob names Cherry Grove specifically among its spawn biomes: Bee.

Forest biomes are the game's default temperate terrain: trees dense enough to need a path cut through them, grass and flowers on the floor, and passive animals in the clearings. They are where most players build, because wood, food and a flat-enough surface all occur together.

How to get it

Cherry grove generates only in mountainous regions, usually alongside meadow at around Y 100 to Y 140. It is uncommon; expect to travel 1,000 blocks or more, or find one with a spyglass from a nearby peak.

Tips

  • Harvest pink petals with any tool or by hand; each layer drops 1 petal and they regrow with bone meal on grass.
  • Take 2 or 3 cherry saplings home — cherry trees grow anywhere with light and a 5x5 clearing, not only in the grove.
  • Emerald ore under a cherry grove peaks near Y 236, so tunnel horizontally through the peak rather than digging down.
  • Cherry leaves make good decorative hedges and drop saplings at the usual rate; shears collect the leaf blocks intact.

Climate and generation

Cherry Grove has a base temperature of 0.5, which puts it in the temperate band. Temperature is not a thermometer reading — it is the single number that decides snow versus rain, whether water freezes over, and what colour the grass renders.

Above 0.15 water stays liquid and any precipitation falls as rain.

Mobs in Cherry Grove

Bee name Cherry Grove specifically as a spawn biome, so this is where you go to find them.

On top of those, the mobs that spawn in open terrain anywhere in the Overworld can appear here too, given the right light level. Mobs that only come from a structure or a spawner — breezes from trial chambers, blazes from fortresses, evokers from mansions — are deliberately not in this list.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find Cherry Grove?

Cherry Grove generates in the Overworld. A locate command finds the nearest one instantly; without cheats, exploring in one direction and watching the F3 screen's biome line is the reliable method.

What spawns in Cherry Grove?

Bee spawn here specifically, and the usual Overworld mobs can appear given the right light level.

Does it rain in Cherry Grove?

Yes — as rain. Cauldrons fill on their own during a storm and farmland stays hydrated.
