Overview
Jungle is the densest terrain in the Overworld and the hardest to move through on foot. Jungle trees grow to 30 blocks with vines hanging off them, the canopy is thick enough that the forest floor stays dark all day — which means hostile mobs spawn under it at noon — and the undergrowth is a mat of jungle bushes you cannot sprint through. What makes the trip worthwhile is a set of resources that occur almost nowhere else. Cocoa pods grow on jungle log sides and are the only source of brown dye and cocoa for cookies. Melons generate here naturally, and a melon slice is the only crop you can turn into glistering melon for a Healing potion. Ocelots, parrots and, in the bamboo variant next door, pandas all spawn here. Jungle temples generate in the biome, each with a redstone puzzle, an arrow-trap corridor and two chests, and they are the earliest place a player normally meets a lever, a tripwire and a sticky piston in the wild. Jungle borders bamboo jungle, sparse jungle, savanna, desert and ocean, and the border is a wall of green.
Cocoa beans for brown dye and cookies, melons for Healing potions and food, jungle wood, ocelots and parrots, and jungle temples for their chests and their dispensers.
With a base temperature of 0.95, Jungle is one of the Overworld's warm biomes, and that single number decides its weather, its water and much of its wildlife.
Weather reaches Jungle: it rains during storms, so crops grow and cauldrons fill on their own.
2 generated structures can appear here, among them Jungle Pyramid and Trail Ruins.
3 mobs name Jungle specifically among their spawn biomes: Ocelot, Panda, and Parrot.
Jungle biomes are the densest terrain in the game: tall trees, thick undergrowth, cocoa on the trunks, and enough leaf cover that the floor stays dark enough for hostile spawns during the day. Bamboo, melons and pandas are effectively jungle-only.
How to get it
Jungle generates in hot, wet regions and is uncommon; on many worlds the nearest is well over 1,000 blocks from spawn. It is usually adjacent to savanna or desert, and always adjacent to its own sparse and bamboo variants.
Tips
- Take a sword and cut leaves rather than an axe on the logs first — clearing sight lines matters more than wood here.
- Cocoa pods planted on any jungle log grow through 3 stages and drop 3 beans when fully ripe.
- Tame a parrot with seeds, never with a cookie: a cookie kills it instantly and is not reversible.
- The jungle temple's arrow trap is disarmed by breaking the tripwire with shears, which does not trigger it.
Climate and generation
Jungle has a base temperature of 0.95, which puts it in the warm band. Temperature is not a thermometer reading — it is the single number that decides snow versus rain, whether water freezes over, and what colour the grass renders.
Above 0.15 water stays liquid and any precipitation falls as rain.
| Property | Value | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature | 0.95 | Decides whether rain falls as snow, whether water freezes, and the grass and foliage tint. |
| Precipitation | Yes | Cauldrons fill on their own and farmland stays hydrated during a storm. |
| Dimension | Overworld | Sets which mobs, structures and ores can generate at all. |
| Grass and water tint | #77A8FF | The colour the game applies to grass, leaves and water in this biome. |

Mobs in Jungle
Ocelot, Panda, and Parrot name Jungle specifically as a spawn biome, so this is where you go to find them.
On top of those, the mobs that spawn in open terrain anywhere in the Overworld can appear here too, given the right light level. Mobs that only come from a structure or a spawner — breezes from trial chambers, blazes from fortresses, evokers from mansions — are deliberately not in this list.

Structures found here
2 structures can generate in Jungle: Jungle Pyramid and Trail Ruins.
- Jungle Pyramid — A mossy cobblestone temple buried in jungle canopy, and the only structure in the game built around an actual redstone puzzle.
- Trail Ruins — A buried settlement of terracotta, mud bricks and stripped logs, almost entirely underground, so it is easy to walk over one without noticing.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I find Jungle?
Jungle generates in the Overworld. A locate command finds the nearest one instantly; without cheats, exploring in one direction and watching the F3 screen's biome line is the reliable method.
What spawns in Jungle?
Ocelot, Panda, and Parrot spawn here specifically, and the usual Overworld mobs can appear given the right light level.
Does it rain in Jungle?
Yes — as rain. Cauldrons fill on their own during a storm and farmland stays hydrated.
