Overview
A Netherite Helmet is the head slot at its end state: 3 armour points, 407 durability, armour toughness that reduces how much heavy hits punch through, and a small amount of knockback resistance that keeps you planted when a ravager charges. It is the piece where the head-slot enchantments live, and those matter more than the raw number. Respiration III adds roughly 45 extra seconds underwater before drowning damage starts, and Aqua Affinity removes the underwater mining penalty entirely — together they turn an ocean monument from a potion-managed expedition into ordinary work. Protection IV on top of the netherite base is the standard end-game head. Because netherite gear is immune to fire and lava, the helmet also survives the deaths that lose everything else, and it will float on the surface of the lava that killed you rather than burning with the rest of your kit. Upgrading is done at a smithing table from an enchanted diamond helmet, and every enchantment survives — so build the diamond version properly first and treat the ingot as the last step. Once it is on, the head slot is a question you never have to revisit.
The head slot in an end-game kit — Respiration and Aqua Affinity for underwater work, Protection IV for everything else, and fire immunity so a lava death does not cost the piece.
Netherite Helmet is one of the 7 variants of this shape in the game. What changes between them is the material, and with it the hardness, the drops, the durability and the recipe — so every figure on this page is this variant's own. Chainmail Helmet is the same shape in a different material.
Netherite Helmet is an armour item in Minecraft 1.21.4. It has 407 points of durability. Use Netherite Ingot on an anvil to repair it.
Enchanting it is possible and generally recommended. It does not stack — each one takes its own slot. You cannot craft it at a bench — take Diamond Helmet and Netherite Ingot to a smithing table instead.
No recipe takes it as an ingredient.
About the netherite armour set
How to get it
Upgrade a Diamond Helmet at a Smithing Table with 1 Netherite Ingot and a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template from a bastion remnant. That is 4 ancient debris per piece.
Tips
- Respiration III plus a Turtle Helmet is not possible, so pick underwater specialism or raw protection.
- A full netherite set gives noticeable knockback resistance; single pieces give very little, so upgrade the set together.
- Enchant the diamond helmet first — the smithing upgrade preserves everything and costs no extra levels.
- The armour calculator shows how little each helmet point matters compared with the chestplate.
Properties
Netherite Helmet lasts 407 uses before it breaks, and Netherite Ingot repairs it on an anvil. Two worn copies can also be merged, on an anvil or a grindstone. Unbreaking III roughly quadruples the lifespan, and Mending replaces the repair cost with experience. Worn, it adds 3 armour points, and 3 armour toughness, which is what keeps heavy hits from cutting straight through. Its enchantability of 15 decides how good the enchanting table's offers are: the higher the number, the more often a level-30 table offers the top-tier enchantment rather than a weak one. Netherite Helmet does not stack — each one occupies an inventory slot of its own.

How it compares to the rest of the set
Every tier of helmet in the game, side by side, so the trade-off is visible in one place: Netherite Helmet sits 6 of 6.
The armour column is the points each piece adds and the toughness column is what blunts a heavy hit. Gold looks cheap on paper and wears out fastest; Netherite Helmet is the end of the line at 407 durability.

How to get it
Enchantments it can take
10 enchantments can be applied to Netherite Helmet: Aqua Affinity, Curse of Binding, Blast Protection, Fire Protection, Mending, Projectile Protection, Protection, Respiration, Thorns, and Unbreaking.
Curse of Binding and Mending are treasure enchantments and never appear at an enchanting table — they come from loot chests, fishing or villager trades only.

Frequently asked questions
How do you make Netherite Helmet in Minecraft?
Netherite Helmet is not crafted at a bench. Put Netherite Upgrade in the left slot of a smithing table, Diamond Helmet in the middle and Netherite Ingot on the right.
What is the stack size of Netherite Helmet?
Netherite Helmet does not stack at all. Every one you carry takes an inventory slot of its own, which is the practical limit on how many you take on a trip.
How much durability does Netherite Helmet have?
Netherite Helmet has 407 durability, and can be repaired on an anvil with Netherite Ingot.
Can Netherite Helmet be enchanted?
Yes — 10 enchantments apply to it, at an enchanting table with fifteen bookshelves, or from an enchanted book on an anvil. Mending is usually the one worth hunting for, because it removes the repair cost entirely.
The rest of the set
Netherite Helmet is one of 7 variants of the same shape. The others are made from different materials, so their numbers differ:
