Netherite Ingot

Overview

A Netherite Ingot upgrades one diamond tool, weapon or armour piece into its netherite version, and it is the most expensive routine item in the game: four Netherite Scrap — which is four ancient debris smelted — plus four gold ingots, for a single upgrade. Netherite gear gains durability, a small damage or protection increase, knockback resistance, and complete immunity to fire and lava, which is what actually matters: netherite items float on lava instead of burning, so the deaths that used to cost a full kit now cost a walk. The upgrade happens at a smithing table and needs a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template from a bastion remnant, and every enchantment on the diamond item survives the process — so always enchant first and upgrade second. Ancient debris is the bottleneck. It generates between Y 8 and Y 22 and most densely around Y -16 in the Nether, never exposed to air, and needs a diamond pickaxe. A full netherite set is 24 debris and 24 gold, which is several dedicated trips. Budget the trips deliberately rather than hoping to stumble on debris.

Upgrading diamond gear at a smithing table into fire-proof, higher-durability netherite that keeps every enchantment through the process. It is the last equipment upgrade the game offers, and it costs more than everything before it combined.

How to get it

Craft 1 from 4 Netherite Scrap and 4 Gold Ingots. Each scrap is 1 ancient debris smelted, and ancient debris is densest around Y -16 in the Nether.

Tips

Enchant the diamond item fully before upgrading; the smithing step preserves everything and costs no levels.
One upgrade template can be duplicated with 7 diamonds and a block of netherrack, so you only need to find 1.
Upgrade the chestplate first, then leggings — they carry 14 of a full set's 20 armour points between them.
