Overview
Purple Glazed Terracotta is one of the 16 variants of White Glazed Terracotta: same recipe, same hardness, same drops — only the look differs. The full write-up for the set is on the White Glazed Terracotta page.
Purple Glazed Terracotta is a coloured block in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. Its hardness of 1.4 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine. Anything below a wooden pickaxe breaks it without leaving a drop.
It drops as the same block you mined. With a blast resistance of only 1.4 it will not survive an explosion. Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot.
Put Purple Terracotta in a furnace and this is what comes out. It is not used in any crafting recipe.
About the purple set
How long it takes to break
At a hardness of 1.4, Purple Glazed Terracotta takes 7 seconds to punch out and 0.25 seconds with a netherite-tier tool of the correct class.
You are looking at 0.35 seconds on iron and 0.3 on diamond — the iron step is where the time actually falls.
A weaker tool still breaks it, but anything under wooden returns nothing — you spend the time and lose the drop, which is how most veins get wasted.
Efficiency adds its level squared plus one to the tool speed, so Efficiency V is about 2.5 times faster than the same tool unenchanted.
| Tool | No enchantment | Efficiency III | Efficiency V |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hand * | 7 s | 7 s | 7 s |
| Wooden | 1.1 s | 0.2 s | 0.1 s |
| Stone | 0.55 s | 0.15 s | 0.1 s |
| Iron | 0.35 s | 0.15 s | 0.1 s |
| Diamond | 0.3 s | 0.15 s | 0.1 s |
| Netherite | 0.25 s | 0.15 s | 0.1 s |
| Golden | 0.2 s | 0.1 s | 0.1 s |
Properties
Blast resistance on Purple Glazed Terracotta is 1.4, so any explosion nearby takes it out. It stops light entirely and gives off no light. 64 fit in a slot — a full stack. A pickaxe is the fastest choice here. A tool of the wrong class is no better than your fist — the speed bonus is tied to the block's own tool tag.
