Minecraft classifies Black Glazed Terracotta as a coloured block. At a hardness of 1.4 it takes a moment to break but never slows a build down. It needs at least a wooden pickaxe to drop anything; a weaker tool destroys it for nothing.

Mining it returns the block itself, so it is safe to relocate. A blast resistance of 1.4 means a single creeper will clear it away. It stacks to 64.

A furnace turns Black Terracotta into it. No recipe takes it as an ingredient.

At a hardness of 1.4, Black Glazed Terracotta takes 7 seconds to punch out and 0.25 seconds with a netherite-tier tool of the correct class.

Iron manages 0.35 seconds and diamond 0.3, which makes iron the tier that changes how this block feels.

The block still breaks with a weaker tool, but below wooden it yields nothing at all — the time is spent and the drop is lost, which is the single most common way players waste a vein.
