In Minecraft 1.21.4, Purple Terracotta is a coloured block. Purple Terracotta is made at a crafting table. Hardness 1.25 puts it in the middle of the pack for mining speed.
Mine it with a wooden pickaxe or better, or you get no drop at all. Broken correctly, it drops itself. Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot.
The recipe calls for Terracotta and Purple Dye. Its only crafting use is Purple Glazed Terracotta.

At a hardness of 1.25, Purple Terracotta takes 6.3 seconds to punch out and 0.25 seconds with a netherite-tier tool of the correct class.
Iron takes 0.35 seconds against diamond's 0.25, so the upgrade worth making for this block is the one to diamond.
A weaker tool still breaks it, but anything under wooden returns nothing — you spend the time and lose the drop, which is how most veins get wasted.
The Efficiency formula is level² + 1 added to tool speed — at V that is about 2.5 times the unenchanted rate.

Properties
With 4.2 blast resistance Purple Terracotta usually goes down to a nearby explosion. It is fully opaque and produces no light. A single slot takes 64, the usual full stack. A pickaxe is the fastest choice here. A tool of the wrong class is no better than your fist — the speed bonus is tied to the block's own tool tag.
