Black Banner — wall-mounted — Minecraft block

Overview

Black Banner — wall-mounted is one of the 16 variants of White Banner — wall-mounted: same recipe, same hardness, same drops — only the look differs. The full write-up for the set is on the White Banner — wall-mounted page.

Black Banner — wall-mounted is a coloured block in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. It is available only in Creative mode or through commands. At a hardness of 1 it takes a moment to break but never slows a build down.

Any tool works, and so do bare hands. What you actually collect is Black Banner. It is transparent, which matters when you are managing light levels.

With a blast resistance of only 1 it will not survive an explosion. Nothing on the crafting grid is made from it.

About the black set

How long it takes to break

At a hardness of 1, Black Banner — wall-mounted takes 1.5 seconds to punch out and 0.2 seconds with a netherite-tier tool of the correct class.

Iron takes 0.25 seconds against diamond's 0.2, so the upgrade worth making for this block is the one to iron.

There is no tier requirement to worry about. Any tool, or none, returns the drop; the numbers below just say how fast.

Efficiency contributes its level squared plus one to tool speed, which makes Efficiency V roughly 4 times faster than the plain tool.

Tool	No enchantment	Efficiency III	Efficiency V
Hand	1.5 s	1.5 s	1.5 s
Wooden	0.75 s	0.15 s	0.1 s
Stone	0.4 s	0.15 s	instant
Iron	0.25 s	0.1 s	instant
Diamond	0.2 s	0.1 s	instant
Netherite	0.2 s	0.1 s	instant
Golden	0.15 s	0.1 s	instant

Properties

With 1 blast resistance Black Banner — wall-mounted goes down to any nearby explosion. It is transparent to light and produces no light. It catches easily (encouragement 60, burn 20), so keep lava and open flame well away from it and from anything next to it. An axe is fastest here; any other class mines it at bare-hand speed, because the bonus only applies to the class the block is tagged for. Broken normally it drops Black Banner rather than itself; Silk Touch is what returns the block, and Fortune raises the ordinary drop instead.

Required tool: Any
Flammable: Yes (60/20)
