Overview

Gray Banner — wall-mounted is one of the 16 variants of White Banner — wall-mounted: same recipe, same hardness, same drops — only the look differs. The full write-up for the set is on the White Banner — wall-mounted page.

In Minecraft 1.21.4, Gray Banner — wall-mounted is a coloured block. It cannot be obtained in Survival — it exists for Creative mode and commands. Hardness 1 puts it in the middle of the pack for mining speed.

No specific tool is required to collect it. Instead of dropping itself it yields Gray Banner. Because it is transparent it does not block light.

A blast resistance of 1 means a single creeper will clear it away. It is not used in any crafting recipe.

About the gray set

How long it takes to break

Gray Banner — wall-mounted sits at hardness 1: 1.5 seconds per block with your fists, 0.2 with the correct netherite tool.

You are looking at 0.25 seconds on iron and 0.2 on diamond — the iron step is where the time actually falls.

Nothing here needs a minimum tier: whatever you swing, the block still drops, and the only difference is how long it takes.

Each Efficiency level adds level² + 1 to the tool's speed, so a level V tool clears this about 4 times faster than an unenchanted one.

Properties

With 1 blast resistance Gray Banner — wall-mounted goes down to any nearby explosion. It is transparent to light and produces no light. Fire takes to it quickly — encouragement 60, burn 20 — which makes it a poor neighbour for lava or a lit campfire. An axe is the fastest choice here. A tool of the wrong class is no better than your fist — the speed bonus is tied to the block's own tool tag. Broken normally it drops Gray Banner rather than itself; Silk Touch is what returns the block, and Fortune raises the ordinary drop instead.
