Blue Banner — Minecraft block

Overview

Blue Banner is one of the 16 variants of White Banner: same recipe, same hardness, same drops — only the look differs. The full write-up for the set is on the White Banner page.

Blue Banner is a coloured block in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. A crafting table turns its ingredients into Blue Banner. Its hardness of 1 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.

You can break it by hand without losing the drop. It drops as the same block you mined. Light passes through it, so it will not darken the space behind it.

It offers almost no protection from explosions (1 blast resistance). One slot holds 16 at most. It is crafted from Blue Wool and Stick.

Nothing on the crafting grid is made from it.

About the blue set

How long it takes to break

At a hardness of 1, Blue Banner takes 1.5 seconds to punch out and 0.2 seconds with a netherite-tier tool of the correct class.

An iron tool takes 0.25 seconds and a diamond one 0.2, so the jump that actually matters for this block is the one to iron.

The drop does not depend on the tool — bare hands work as well as anything — so the table below is purely about speed.

Each Efficiency level adds level² + 1 to the tool's speed, so a level V tool clears this about 4 times faster than an unenchanted one.

Tool	No enchantment	Efficiency III	Efficiency V
Hand	1.5 s	1.5 s	1.5 s
Wooden	0.75 s	0.15 s	0.1 s
Stone	0.4 s	0.15 s	instant
Iron	0.25 s	0.1 s	instant
Diamond	0.2 s	0.1 s	instant
Netherite	0.2 s	0.1 s	instant
Golden	0.15 s	0.1 s	instant

Properties

With 1 blast resistance Blue Banner goes down to any nearby explosion. It is transparent to light and produces no light. One inventory slot holds 16. Flammable, at encouragement 60 and burn 20: build with it away from lava, and do not use it as a wall you care about. An axe is the fastest choice here. A tool of the wrong class is no better than your fist — the speed bonus is tied to the block's own tool tag.
