Black Wool is a coloured block in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. A crafting table turns its ingredients into Black Wool. Its hardness of 0.8 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.
You can break it by hand without losing the drop. It drops as the same block you mined. With a blast resistance of only 0.8 it will not survive an explosion.

With 0.8 blast resistance Black Wool goes down to any nearby explosion. It is fully opaque and produces no light. One inventory slot holds 64, the normal full stack. It is renewable, so a single world can supply an unlimited amount of it. It catches easily (encouragement 30, burn 60), so keep lava and open flame well away from it and from anything next to it. The fastest tool for it is shears; any other kind of tool mines it no faster than a bare hand does, because the speed bonus only applies to the tool class the block is tagged for. As furnace fuel it burns for 5 seconds — half of what a single smelting operation needs.
