Overview
Purple Wool is one of the 16 variants of White Wool: same recipe, same hardness, same drops — only the look differs. The full write-up for the set is on the White Wool page.
Purple Wool is a coloured block in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. A crafting table turns its ingredients into Purple Wool. Its hardness of 0.8 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.
You can break it by hand without losing the drop. It drops as the same block you mined. With a blast resistance of only 0.8 it will not survive an explosion.
Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot. The recipe calls for Purple Dye and White Wool. It is an ingredient in 4 recipes, among them Painting, Purple Banner, Purple Bed and 1 more.
About the purple set
Properties
Blast resistance on Purple Wool is 0.8, so any explosion nearby takes it out. It stops light entirely and gives off no light. Stack size is 64 — the standard full stack. It renews, so a single world will never run out. It catches easily (encouragement 30, burn 60), so keep lava and open flame well away from it and from anything next to it. The fastest tool for it is shears; any other kind of tool mines it no faster than a bare hand does, because the speed bonus only applies to the tool class the block is tagged for. As furnace fuel it burns for 5 seconds — half of what a single smelting operation needs.
