Overview
Snowy plains is flat white grassland where water freezes into ice on its own and every drop of precipitation falls as snow. Nothing grows: no trees except the occasional spruce at a border, no crops without a light source over them, because farmland in a freezing biome is fine but the snow layer that keeps settling is not. What generates here instead is structure and mob content. Igloos appear on snowy plains — a small snow-block dome with a bed, a crafting table and a furnace, and roughly half of them have a trapdoor under the carpet leading to a basement with a zombie villager, a cured-villager setup, and a chest with golden apples. Strays spawn in place of ordinary skeletons and fire arrows that apply Slowness on hit without any brewing, which makes them worth farming. Rabbits appear in their white coat, and polar bears wander in occasionally. The snow itself is a resource: a shovel produces snowballs endlessly and never runs out because the biome keeps re-covering the ground. Snowy plains borders ice spikes, snowy taiga, frozen river, snowy beach and grove.

How to get it
Snowy plains is a common cold biome and generates in the coldest temperate bands of a world. Igloos generate at a rate of roughly 1 per several hundred blocks, so travel in a straight line to find one.
Tips
- Check every igloo carpet for the trapdoor: about half hide a basement with a zombie villager to cure into a discounted trader.
- Torches placed on the ground melt snow layers in a radius, which is the easiest way to keep a path clear.
- Stray arrows apply Slowness for up to 30 seconds; collect the tipped arrows they drop rather than brewing your own.
- Cover any farmland with a slab or a roof — snow settling on crops does not break them, but the light level does matter.
