Overview
Part II was the largest change to world generation in the game's history. Terrain and biome placement were decoupled, so mountains rise over 250 blocks and cave systems carve continuously through the new negative Y space. Every ore was redistributed, making diamond deepest and iron ubiquitous. The light-level change quietly ended mob spawning inside partially lit bases, which reshaped how everyone builds.
What it added
- World height extended to Y=-64 through Y=320
- Completely rewritten terrain generation with towering mountains and deep valleys
- Noise caves, cheese caves, spaghetti caves and aquifers
- Lush caves and dripstone caves finally generating naturally
- New mountain biomes: meadow, grove, snowy slopes, jagged peaks, frozen peaks, stony peaks
- Ore distribution rebalanced around the new world height
- Hostile mobs now require light level 0 rather than 7 to spawn
