Meat in the Nether means a Hoglin, and the Nether does not make that easy. It charges on sight with 40 health, hits for 8 on Normal, and the hit launches you — which in a crimson forest usually means across a ravine and into lava, killing you with terrain rather than damage. Kill one and you get 2 to 4 porkchops, cooked already if fire did the killing, plus leather; breed two with crimson fungi and you have the only renewable food source in the dimension. The escape hatch is fear. Hoglins flee from warped fungi, nether portals and respawn anchors, so a warped fungus on a fence post or a ring of them around a base pushes the whole herd away without a single fence gate. Use the same trick to carve a safe corridor through a crimson forest. The other rule is conversion: a Hoglin taken out of the Nether turns into a Zoglin in about fifteen seconds, and a Zoglin attacks everything including villagers, so never walk one through a portal on a lead unless you intend the result. They spawn in crimson forests and inside some bastion remnants, in groups of up to four.

How it behaves
The Hoglin attacks on sight within its detection range, so light, walls and distance are all valid answers. Most hostile mobs notice you inside about sixteen blocks, though a few — ghasts especially — see very much further.
