Overview

The Breeze barely damages you, and that is exactly what makes it dangerous. Its wind charges deal 1 damage each; what they do is throw you — off the ledge you were standing on, into the vindicators the chamber just released, or out of the shield wall you had set up. With 30 health and a movement pattern of constant long hops, it is the hardest thing in a trial chamber to actually hit, and a fight that drags on is a fight the rest of the room joins. Wind charges also interact with the world: they flip levers, press buttons and pop trapdoors open, which the trial chambers deliberately use as puzzle mechanics rather than just combat. A shield deflects the charges, and a well-timed melee swing between hops does more than chasing it ever will. Killing one drops 1 to 2 breeze rods, and those are not optional if you want a mace: breeze rods craft wind charges and are the only material that repairs a mace at an anvil. Added in 1.21, the Breeze spawns from breeze trial spawners and nowhere else — there is no wild Breeze anywhere in the Overworld, which makes trial chambers the only supply.

Breeze rods. One rod crafts 4 wind charges, one repairs a mace at an anvil, and wind charges are the mobility tool that makes the mace's smash attack reach its full damage.

The breeze never stands still: it bounces around the arena in long hops and lobs wind charges that deal only a point of damage but blast you backwards, off ledges and into whatever else the chamber has released. Its projectiles also flip levers, press buttons and pop trapdoors, which the chambers use as puzzle mechanics. Melee it between hops, or reflect wind charges with a shield.

Breeze sits under Hostile mobs in Minecraft 1.21.4. Health sits at 30 points (15 hearts). It deals 1 damage on Normal difficulty.

Expect 10 experience per kill.

Properties

Breeze has 30 health, which is 15 hearts. It drops up to 10 experience when a player kills it. Its hitbox is 0.6 blocks wide and 1.77 tall, which is what decides whether it fits through a gap or a one-block-high opening.

Damage by difficulty

Breeze hits for 1 on every difficulty; its damage does not scale the way most hostile mobs' does.

A full set of diamond armour cuts that by up to 80% against a small hit and less against a large one, and Protection IV on all four pieces — 16 EPF — takes a further 64% off what is left.

Drops

Killing Breeze drops Breeze Rod, plus up to 10 experience. Looting raises the maximum on most of these by one per level.

  • Breeze Rod: 1–2 — Only when killed by a player.

How it behaves

The Breeze attacks on sight within its detection range, so light, walls and distance are all valid answers. Most hostile mobs notice you inside about sixteen blocks, though a few — ghasts especially — see very much further.

Killed by a player it drops up to 10 experience; killed any other way it drops none.

Command

In a world with cheats on, this spawns one Breeze where you are standing.

30 health, 15 hearts, and it drops 10 experience when killed.

How to get it

Breeze spawn only from breeze trial spawners inside trial chambers, which generate roughly between Y=-40 and Y=0 in almost every Overworld biome. A player kill drops 1 to 2 breeze rods and 10 experience.

Tips

  • Fight it in a corner or a dead end so the knockback has nowhere to throw you but into a wall.
  • Hold a shield: a blocked wind charge deals no damage and no knockback, which removes its whole threat.
  • Strike between hops rather than chasing — a Breeze outpaces a sprinting player over open chamber floor.
  • Collect every breeze rod you can; a mace costs 1 heavy core and 1 breeze rod, and repairs cost more rods.
