Breeze Rod

Breeze Rod

Materials

Overview

A Breeze Rod is the 1.21 drop that turns the trial chambers update into equipment. One rod crafts into 4 Wind Charges, the throwable shove that launches you into the air for a mace smash; and one rod plus a Heavy Core makes the Mace itself, the only weapon in the game whose damage scales with how far you fell. Rods also repair a damaged mace on an anvil, which matters because the mace burns durability faster than an ordinary weapon. They come only from the breeze, the floating hostile that trial spawners produce inside trial chambers — it bounces around the room firing wind bursts that shove you into whatever else is in the pit, and it takes no damage from projectiles you fire at it head-on, so melee or a well-placed shield is the answer. Because trial spawners reset on a 30-minute cooldown, one mapped chamber supplies rods indefinitely rather than once. The rod also fixes the awkward problem of a mace that has run down mid-expedition, which is why experienced chamber runners always leave with more rods than they think they need. Treat every breeze kill as maintenance for the weapon as much as material for it.

Crafting wind charges and the mace, and repairing a worn mace on an anvil — the three things 1.21's combat additions depend on. Nothing else does any of the three.

Breeze Rod is a crafting material item in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot. You get it by killing Breeze.

It is used to craft Flow Armor Trim, Mace, and Wind Charge.

How to get it

Kill a breeze in a trial chamber; spawners reset after 30 minutes so the supply repeats. 1 rod crafts 4 wind charges, and 1 rod plus a heavy core makes a mace.

Tips

  • Breezes deflect arrows fired straight at them, so close the distance or use a shield and melee.
  • Fight from a doorway; their wind bursts are designed to push you into the rest of the wave.
  • Keep a few rods aside for mace repairs rather than converting the whole lot into wind charges.
  • The trial chambers guide covers which rooms spawn breezes most reliably and in what numbers.

Version notes

Added in 1.21 with the breeze, the mace, the wind charge and trial chambers. It is the only item in the game that repairs a mace.
