Overview
Diamond Horse Armor gives a horse 11 armour points, the best protection available to any mount, and it is one of the few genuinely rare items that cannot be crafted at all. Eleven points cuts incoming damage by a very large margin, which turns a fast horse from a liability at night into a mount you can ride through a hostile field with confidence. Combined with a horse bred for speed and jump height, it makes overland travel competitive with anything short of Elytra. Supply is the problem. It appears only in loot chests, most commonly in desert temples, dungeons, mineshafts, strongholds, nether fortresses and end city chests, and the odds are low enough that most players find their first piece by accident. Like every horse armour it has no durability, cannot be enchanted, and moves freely between mounts, so the one you find is the one you keep forever. Trading does not supply it and neither does any recipe, so exploration is the only route. Anyone who rides seriously ends up with exactly one piece and a horse that never leaves the stable without it.

Diamond Horse Armor is an armour item in Minecraft 1.21.4. It does not stack — each one takes its own slot. Chest loot in Dungeon (Monster Room) can contain it.

How to get it
Not craftable and not traded. It generates in desert temple, dungeon, stronghold, mineshaft, nether fortress and end city chests at roughly 1 to 3% per chest — the rarest of the 4 tiers, and exploration is the only route to it.
Tips
- It never wears out, so one piece found in a desert temple protects every horse you own from then on.
- Pair it with a horse bred for high speed and jump; armour is wasted on a slow mount you never ride.
- End city chests are a good late-game source when you are already flying between cities for Elytra and shulkers.
- Store spare horse armour in a labelled chest at the stable, not in your inventory where it dies with you.
