The vindicator is the melee illager and the reason woodland mansions kill unprepared players: an iron axe hitting for 13 on Normal, which also disables your shield for five seconds on every hit. It sprints, opens doors, and comes in groups from adjacent rooms. Fight it in a doorway with armour on and never rely on the shield alone. One named "Johnny" attacks every mob it can reach.
