Overview
Wear one piece of gold armour and a Piglin will let you walk through a bastion remnant unharmed. Wear none and every Piglin in sight attacks on the spot, with 16 health each and 8 damage on Normal from a golden sword — enough that a group of six ends most unprepared Nether trips. That single rule about gold is the most important thing in the dimension after Fire Resistance. The second is bartering. Throw a gold ingot near a Piglin and it inspects the ingot for about six seconds, then throws back a random item: ender pearls, obsidian, crying obsidian, fire resistance potions, soul speed books, string, gravel and leather all sit on the same table, which makes a barter farm the standard way to get ender pearls without fighting endermen. Three things break the truce regardless of what you are wearing — opening a chest, mining gold ore or a gold block, and attacking any Piglin — and the whole group remembers. Outside the Nether a Piglin zombifies into a Zombified Piglin in about fifteen seconds, so bartering has to happen where they live.
Bartering. Gold ingots thrown to a Piglin come back as ender pearls, obsidian, crying obsidian, fire resistance potions and soul speed enchanted books, which is the cheapest route to several of them.
Piglins attack on sight unless you are wearing at least one piece of gold armour, which they read as tribute. Throw a gold ingot near one and it inspects it for six seconds, then barters a random item back, from ender pearls and obsidian to string and gravel. They are provoked by opening chests, mining gold ore, or attacking any piglin, and the whole group will remember. Outside the Nether they zombify in fifteen seconds.

A full set of diamond armour cuts that by up to 80% against a small hit and less against a large one, and Protection IV on all four pieces — 16 EPF — takes a further 64% off what is left.

Killing Piglin drops Golden Sword and Crossbow, plus up to 5 experience. Looting raises the maximum on most of these by one per level.

How it behaves
The Piglin ignores you until provoked, and once provoked it usually stays provoked — often for the whole group, which is what makes a single mistake expensive.
