Overview
Move one Llama on a lead and every other Llama nearby forms a queue behind it. That caravan behaviour is the reason to keep them: a single lead in your hand drags a whole train of pack animals across the map, which no other mob in the game does. Each carries a chest, and the capacity depends on a randomly rolled strength value between 1 and 5 that translates to 3, 6, 9, 12 or 15 inventory slots — so llamas from the same herd are not equally useful, and it is worth checking before you commit. Health rolls between 15 and 30 as well. A Llama spits at anything that hurts it for a token 1 damage, which staggers rather than kills but does mean an angry herd will harass a wolf or a player indefinitely. You cannot steer one while riding; a Llama accepts a carpet as decoration rather than a saddle, and the carpet pattern is purely cosmetic. They spawn in herds of four to six in savanna plateaus and the windswept hills group at light level 9 or above, and breed on hay bales. Compare the Trader Llama, which arrives leashed to a wandering trader.
