As working armour it is therefore a poor choice, and the eight ingots it costs are worth far more traded to piglins for ender pearls, obsidian and fire charges. Where it earns its place is enchanting. Gold armour's enchantability of 25 is the highest figure in the game by a wide margin, so a golden chestplate taken to a full 15-bookshelf enchanting table produces Protection IV and Thorns III at a rate diamond simply cannot match. Players who want a specific book roll it on gold, strip it onto a book with an anvil combination, and apply the result to the piece they actually wear. There is a cosmetic argument too: a full gold set is one of the most recognisable looks in the game, and on a server where you are not expecting a fight, style occasionally wins. Just do not take one into a raid and expect it to hold. Wear it at a build site, not in a raid, and it will never let you down.

Tips

- 112 durability is a single serious fight; it is not armour you can plan a trip around.
- Bartering the same 8 ingots with piglins returns pearls, obsidian, quartz and fire charges worth far more.
- Zombified piglins ignore gold armour entirely — it is ordinary piglins the gold placates.
