Overview
Winning a raid pays you in discounts, and Hero of the Village is how the game delivers them. Every villager in the settlement drops their prices sharply for the duration, and higher levels of the effect — earned by surviving the harder raids that ominous bottles produce — cut deeper still. On a trading-heavy world this is the single most profitable status effect there is: an Armorer's diamond chestplate or a librarian's book that would cost dozens of emeralds becomes affordable while the timer runs, and a player who plans for it does their expensive shopping in that window rather than at leisure. Villagers also throw you gifts while it lasts — a farmer tosses bread, a fletcher an arrow, a cleric a redstone dust — which is charming and worth almost nothing. The practical shape of the effect is that it rewards preparation twice. Prepare for the raid so you win it, then have a list ready so the discount is spent on the expensive trades rather than wasted on wheat. It ends on its own timer, milk removes it if you are careless, and it does not carry between villages — the discount applies to villagers who know about the raid you won.
Buying the expensive villager trades cheaply — enchanted books, diamond gear, explorer maps — in the window after a won raid, when every price in the village is cut.
Gives large discounts on villager trades and occasional gifts from villagers. Awarded for defeating a raid.
Hero of the Village is a beneficial status effect. Nothing brews it, so it runs for as long as whatever applied it keeps doing so.
While it is active the icon sits in the top-right of the inventory screen with the time remaining under it, and particles in the effect's own colour trail off you, fainter when the source is ambient — a beacon or a conduit. No beacon offers it, so every application has a fixed duration.
How to get it
Defeat every wave of a raid. The effect lasts around 40 minutes and its level rises with the raid's level, so a raid started from a level V Ominous Bottle grants a deeper discount than one from a level I bottle.
Tips
- Write your shopping list before the raid; the timer runs down whether you are trading or rebuilding fences.
- Do not drink milk afterwards — it strips the discount along with everything else you are carrying.
- Curing a zombie villager stacks a separate permanent discount on top; see villager trading.
- Totems of Undying come from the evokers in the raid itself, so a won raid pays twice over.
What each level does
The level shown in the inventory is the amplifier plus one, which is why Hero of the Village II is amplifier 1 in a command. Each level does the following:
You cannot reach past V legitimately, though a command will set it as high as 255.
| Level | Effect |
|---|---|
| I | villager prices fall by about 30% |
| II | villager prices fall by about 36% |
| III | villager prices fall by about 43% |
| IV | villager prices fall by about 49% |
| V | villager prices fall by about 55% |
Properties
Hero of the Village has no potion form; it comes from Winning a raid and lasts as long as its source keeps applying it. Milk is the only cure, and it clears every effect you are carrying at once.
