Overview
Swim near a dolphin and it gives you a burst of speed that no potion in the game can match — swimming under Dolphin's Grace is faster than sprinting on land, and dramatically faster than swimming without it. The effect cannot be bottled, brewed, traded or commanded into a potion form; it exists only as long as you stay close to a dolphin that has decided to swim with you. That constraint is also the charm. Dolphins follow boats and players, they lead you towards nearby shipwrecks and ruins if you feed them raw cod, and a player crossing an ocean with a pod alongside is genuinely travelling faster than one paddling alone. Two practical notes stop it being a disappointment. Depth Strider on boots does not stack with it in the way people expect — Grace sets your swim speed outright rather than adding to it — and the effect ends the moment the dolphin loses interest or you outrun it. Do not kill dolphins for anything: they drop almost nothing, killing one turns the whole pod hostile towards you, and a live pod is worth far more than the meat.

Dolphin's Grace is a beneficial status effect. Nothing brews it, so it runs for as long as whatever applied it keeps doing so.
While it is on you, the top-right of the inventory shows the icon and the time left, and you give off particles in the effect's colour, dimmer when the source is ambient. No beacon carries it, so each dose is finite.
How to get it
Swim within about 10 blocks of a dolphin that is swimming near you; the effect refreshes for 5 seconds at a time and ends when the dolphin leaves. There is no potion, no beacon and no command-free alternative.
Tips
- Feed a dolphin raw cod and it swims towards the nearest shipwreck or ruin, which is the cheapest treasure map in the game.
- It overrides your normal swim speed rather than adding to it, so Depth Strider boots gain you nothing while it runs.
- Dolphins take drowning damage if trapped out of water, so never pen them in a shallow tank at your base.
- A boat still beats swimming for long crossings; use Grace for the last stretch where a boat cannot follow you down.
