Haste

Haste

Positive

Overview

Haste is the effect that changes a project's timescale rather than its difficulty. Every block in the game has a hardness value, and mining time divides by your tool's speed — so an effect that multiplies that speed is worth more the more blocks you intend to break. A single hall dug by hand is unaffected by whether you had it. A twenty-thousand-block quarry, a canal, a flattened build platform or an ancient debris strip mine is a different job entirely with a beacon running. The interesting threshold is instant mining: a block breaks the moment you click it once your tool speed reaches thirty times its hardness, and Haste is the piece that pushes an Efficiency V pickaxe over that line for stone, which needs 45. Deepslate needs 90 and no survival combination reaches it — netherite plus Efficiency V under Haste II tops out at 49 — so deepslate stays a two-tick block rather than a free one. Attack speed rises too, which matters slightly for an axe's slow recovery and almost not at all for a sword. In survival there are exactly two sources, and neither travels with you: a beacon fixed in place and a conduit's Conduit Power underwater. That immobility is the design — Haste is a reward for having built something, and the beacon is the thing worth building.

Large-scale excavation — quarries, canals, tunnel networks and clearing a build site — where the difference between a two-second block and an instant one repeats tens of thousands of times.

Increases mining speed by 20% and attack speed by 10% per level. A beacon set to Haste transforms large excavation projects.

The game files Haste as a beneficial status effect. There is no potion of it; its duration is exactly as long as its source keeps it up.

While it is on you, the top-right of the inventory shows the icon and the time left, and you give off particles in the effect's colour, dimmer when the source is ambient. A beacon is the one source that can sustain it permanently over an area.

How to get it

Set a beacon to Haste; a 1-tier pyramid needs 9 blocks and reaches 20 blocks, a 4-tier pyramid needs 164 and reaches 50, with Haste II available only from the secondary slot on a full pyramid. An activated conduit grants it underwater as part of Conduit Power.

Tips

  • Work out the pyramid cost first with the beacon calculator; iron is usually cheaper than netherite and gives the identical range.
  • Haste II plus Efficiency V puts stone into true instant mining; deepslate never gets there, but it drops to two ticks a block, which is the reason strip miners build the fourth tier.
  • A beacon's beam does not need to reach the sky over your head — only over the pyramid, so a mineshaft under it still receives the effect.
  • Underwater, Conduit Power supplies Haste and Water Breathing at once, which is what makes monument clearing practical.

What each level does

The level shown in the inventory is the amplifier plus one, which is why Haste II is amplifier 1 in a command. Each level does the following:

Survival stops at II; commands do not, and will accept an amplifier up to 255.

LevelEffect
I+20% mining speed and +10% attack speed
II+40% mining speed and +20% attack speed

Properties

No potion produces Haste. Its sources are Beacon and Conduit Power, and its duration is whatever they give it. Milk is the only cure, and it clears every effect you are carrying at once.
