Shear a mooshroom and it drops 5 mushrooms and turns into an ordinary cow permanently; milk one with a bowl instead and you get mushroom stew without killing anything, which is a renewable food source that needs no farmland. Strike a red mooshroom with lightning and it turns brown; feeding a brown mooshroom a flower yields a suspicious stew with that flower's effect. There is no wood here except mushroom stems, no ores on the surface, and no passive animals other than mooshrooms. Mushroom fields almost always generate as an isolated island surrounded by deep ocean, which is why so few players ever find one.
