Overview
A Turtle Scute is what a baby turtle leaves behind when it grows into an adult, and five of them make a Turtle Helmet — the headgear that gives 10 seconds of Water Breathing every time you surface. It is also the brewing ingredient behind the Potion of the Turtle Master, which trades crippling Slowness for enormous Resistance and is the closest thing the game has to standing still and being invincible. Getting scutes is a farming project rather than a hunt: adult turtles breed on seagrass, lay eggs only on the beach sand they themselves hatched on, and the eggs take several nights to hatch. Baby turtles then need to be fed seagrass to grow, and each one drops exactly one scute at the moment it matures. Zombies deliberately trample turtle eggs, so a working scute farm needs the nest lit and walled. It is slow, but it is entirely renewable, and one beach farm supplies every turtle helmet a world will ever need. Start the nest early and the helmet arrives without any further thought. Seagrass is the only input the whole loop needs.
