Overview
A Trial Key is what a trial spawner pays you for surviving its waves, and the only thing that opens a vault. Clear the mobs a trial spawner produces and it ejects one key; carry that key to any unopened vault in the chamber, use it on the vault, and the vault gives you its loot and locks you out of it permanently. That per-player lock is the clever part: a vault opened by one player still has loot for everyone else, so a group can run a chamber together and each leave with a full share. Normal vault loot is solid mid-game material — emeralds, iron and diamond gear, enchanted books, arrows, honey bottles and the occasional trial chamber pottery sherd. Keys do not stack with the ominous variety and cannot be crafted, traded or found in ordinary chests, so the only supply is doing the trials. Spawners reset on a 30-minute cooldown, which makes a mapped chamber a repeatable source rather than a one-off, and that reset is why players mark chambers on a map rather than stripping them.

Trial Key is a miscellaneous item in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot. Look for it in the loot of Trial Chambers.
It is not used in any crafting recipe.
How to get it
Beat the wave a trial spawner runs; it ejects 1 trial key. Each spawner resets after 30 minutes, so a chamber with 12 spawners produces a steady supply on repeat visits.
Tips
- Vault locks are per player, so bring friends — everyone can open the same vault with their own key.
- Spawners reset on a 30-minute cooldown; map the chamber and come back rather than trying to clear it all at once.
