Dragon's Breath — Minecraft item

Overview

Dragon's Breath is collected, not crafted: during the ender dragon fight the dragon exhales a purple cloud, and using an empty glass bottle on that cloud fills it. It is the ingredient that turns a splash potion into a lingering potion, which is the only route to Tipped Arrows and to area-denial clouds that sit on the ground applying an effect to anything that walks through them. That makes it a genuinely strategic item on servers: a lingering Potion of Harming across a doorway is a trap, and a lingering Potion of Regeneration in a fight is a healing zone for your whole team. Because it is only collectible during the fight or from the dragon's ranged attack, most players end their first dragon kill with a handful of bottles and no more. Respawning the dragon with four End Crystals is the way to get more, and it is a genuine reason to do so beyond the experience. It stacks to 64, so a single well-prepared fight can supply a whole brewing career. Nobody regrets carrying too many bottles into that fight.

Converting splash potions into lingering potions, which in turn make tipped arrows and leave standing clouds that apply effects to anything entering them. No other ingredient makes a lingering potion.

Dragon's Breath is a brewing item in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot. No recipe takes it as an ingredient.

How to get it

Use empty Glass Bottles on the purple cloud the ender dragon breathes out. Bring 20 or more bottles; the cloud lingers for several seconds and each use fills 1 bottle.

Tips

Bring a stack of empty bottles to the dragon fight — most players forget and leave with two or three.
Respawn the dragon with 4 end crystals on the portal frame if you need a bigger supply later.
Lingering clouds last around 30 seconds and apply a quarter of the potion's duration per contact.
