Blaze Powder

Overview

Blaze Powder is the fuel that makes a brewing stand work and the ingredient that makes an eye of ender, which puts it at the centre of everything after the Nether. One powder fuels 20 brewing operations, so a single blaze rod's two powders cover 40 brews — meaning fuel is almost never the constraint. As an ingredient it brews Potions of Strength, combines with a slimeball into Magma Cream for Fire Resistance, joins an ender pearl to make an Eye of Ender, and goes into fire charges with gunpowder and coal. That is four separate progression paths from one item. Crafting is a single blaze rod into 2 powder, so the whole supply chain reduces to how many blazes you are willing to fight. Keep the powder rather than the rods where you can — powder stacks the same way and is what every recipe actually consumes, apart from the brewing stand itself, which wants the rod intact. One fortress trip supplies enough powder for a full brewing career, a stack of eyes and every fire charge you will ever throw, which is why the trip is worth planning properly.

How to get it

Craft 2 from 1 Blaze Rod. One powder fuels 20 brewing operations, so a stack of 64 covers more brewing than most worlds ever do.

Tips

Fuel the stand first: an unfuelled brewing stand simply does nothing, and new players often miss the slot.
One powder covers 20 brews, so top the stand up once per session rather than per potion.
Keep 12 powders aside for eyes of ender before spending the rest on potions.
