Overview
A Furnace Minecart is a locomotive: feed it coal or charcoal and it pushes other minecarts along the track under its own power, no powered rails required. In practice it is a curiosity rather than a workhorse, because powered rails are cheap once you have gold and a furnace cart is slow, hard to steer and awkward to stop — but it has two genuine uses. On a very long line where gold is scarce, one furnace cart and a few pieces of coal move a train further than a handful of powered rails would. And in a world where a cart needs to run in one direction indefinitely, a furnace cart is a self-contained solution with no redstone at all. One piece of coal drives it for roughly 3 minutes and 45 seconds, and it accepts fuel by using coal on it directly. It cannot be ridden, it pushes rather than pulls, and it takes the direction it was facing when lit — hitting it with the fuel from the side you want it to travel is the trick most players never learn.

Tips

- Stopping one is awkward — end the line with a block, because it will not brake on an unpowered rail.
