Efficiency V is the important one: with it a diamond axe strips a two-by-two dark oak tree in the time it takes to walk around the trunk, which changes how much wood a project costs you in real minutes. Unbreaking III and Mending together mean the axe never needs replacing, and a Silk Touch or Fortune choice does not apply here, so there is only one sensible enchantment set to aim for. As a weapon it is the best axe short of netherite, and its shield-disabling hit makes it the answer to vindicators in a woodland mansion, where being blocked repeatedly is what gets players killed. Enchant it before any netherite upgrade, since the smithing table carries every enchantment across. Anyone who builds in wood ends up carrying one permanently, whatever their sword says.

Craft 1 from 3 Diamonds and 2 Sticks. At 1,561 uses it outlasts an iron axe six times over, and 1 diamond on an anvil restores a quarter of that.

Tips

Efficiency V is the enchantment that matters; the difference on a hundred-log build is measured in whole minutes.
Its 1.0 attack speed is the fastest of any axe, so it is a genuinely usable weapon rather than a novelty.
Take it to a woodland mansion: vindicators block swords, and axes break through.
Keep it enchanted and upgrade later — the netherite smithing step preserves everything already on the tool.
