Overview
Healing is the only way in Minecraft to undo damage faster than it arrives. Every other source — food regeneration, Regeneration itself, golden apples — restores health over seconds, and seconds are precisely what a creeper or a warden does not give you. A splash Potion of Healing lands and the hearts are simply back, in the same tick, which makes it the emergency button rather than the sustain plan. Two consequences follow. The first is that it is worth carrying in splash form: a drinkable potion takes over a second you may not have, whereas a thrown bottle at your feet is instant and also catches anyone standing with you, which matters on servers. The second is the undead inversion — zombies, skeletons, drowned, husks, strays, phantoms, wither skeletons and the Wither itself take it as damage rather than healing, so a splash bottle thrown into a zombie crowd is a weapon. That inversion is not a curiosity; it is a genuine tactic against a wither skeleton corridor. Glistering melon slices are the ingredient, and each one costs eight gold nuggets, so the practical limit on Healing is gold rather than melons.
Surviving the moment rather than the fight — undoing a creeper blast, a fall, or a burst of guardian damage immediately, and doubling as an offensive splash against undead crowds.
Restores health immediately rather than over time. Against undead mobs it does the opposite and deals damage.
Instant Health is a beneficial status effect. It lands once and is done — there is no duration ticking down.
You will see it as an inventory icon in the top-right corner with a countdown, plus a trail of particles in the effect's colour — faint rather than absent when a beacon or a conduit applied it. There is no beacon version, so it always runs out.
How to get it
Brew a glistering melon slice into an Awkward Potion; each slice costs 8 gold nuggets plus 1 melon slice. The potion is instant, so redstone does nothing, but glowstone dust upgrades it to Healing II for double the restoration.
Tips
- Carry it as a splash potion; the second you spend drinking is the second that kills you in a real emergency.
- Against a wither skeleton corridor or a zombie horde, splash Healing damages every undead mob in range at once.
- It cannot exceed your maximum health, so pair it with Absorption from a golden apple rather than over-brewing.
- Gold nuggets are the real cost — a piglin bartering setup makes Healing far cheaper than mining for it does.
What each level does
The number in a command is one lower than the level you see: Instant Health II is amplifier 1. Here is each level:
Survival stops at II; commands do not, and will accept an amplifier up to 255.
| Level | Effect |
|---|---|
| I | restores 2 health (1 hearts) at once |
| II | restores 4 health (2 hearts) at once |
Properties
Instant Health has no potion form; it comes from Potion of Healing and Splash Potion of Healing and lasts as long as its source keeps applying it. It resolves in a single tick, so removal never comes up. Undead mobs take this as damage instead.
