Crimson Button

Overview

Crimson Button is one of the 13 variants of this shape in the game. What changes between them is the material, and with it the hardness, the drops, the durability and the recipe — so every figure on this page is this variant's own. Oak Button is the same shape in a different material.

In Minecraft 1.21.4, Crimson Button is a Nether block. Crimson Button is made at a crafting table. A hardness of 0.5 means it is one of the quicker blocks to clear.

No specific tool is required to collect it. Broken correctly, it drops itself. Because it is transparent it does not block light.

A blast resistance of 0.5 means a single creeper will clear it away. It stacks to 64. You make it with Crimson Planks.

No recipe takes it as an ingredient.

About the crimson set

Crimson is not wood at all — it is fungus, harvested from the huge crimson fungi that grow on nylium in the crimson forest — and that biology gives the whole set its defining property: crimson blocks are completely fireproof. They will not burn, fire will not spread across them, and lava will not set them alight, which makes crimson and warped the only sensible building materials anywhere near lava or in the Nether generally. The set covers planks, stairs, slabs, fences, gates, doors, trapdoors, signs, hanging signs, buttons and pressure plates, but there is no crimson boat, because a stem is not a log. Crimson stems strip with an axe like a log and the planks are a deep maroon-red found nowhere else. Bone meal on crimson nylium grows a new huge fungus instantly, so the set is fully renewable from one nylium block.

How long it takes to break

Hardness 0.5 puts Crimson Button at 0.75 seconds a block bare-handed, or 0.1 seconds with the right tool at netherite tier.

Iron takes 0.15 seconds against diamond's 0.1, so the upgrade worth making for this block is the one to diamond.

Nothing here needs a minimum tier: whatever you swing, the block still drops, and the only difference is how long it takes.

Efficiency contributes its level squared plus one to tool speed, which makes Efficiency V roughly 2 times faster than the plain tool.

Properties

Blast resistance on Crimson Button is 0.5, so any explosion nearby takes it out. It lets light pass and gives off no light. One inventory slot holds 64, the normal full stack. The fastest tool for it is an axe; any other kind of tool mines it no faster than a bare hand does, because the speed bonus only applies to the tool class the block is tagged for.
