Overview
The cherry log is the trunk of the tree added in 1.20, and it is the only wood in Minecraft with a genuinely pink interior. The bark is a soft grey-brown and the planks it makes are pale pink, which put a colour into the building palette that previously required dyed concrete or terracotta — that is why cherry became one of the most-used decorative woods almost immediately. Cherry trees generate only in the cherry grove biome, a mountain-slope biome full of pink canopies and falling petal particles, but the saplings grow anywhere with light and a clearing, so one trip supplies a permanent farm. The tree itself grows from a single sapling, unlike dark oak or pale oak, and needs a wide clearing because its canopy spreads sideways. The full wood set follows the usual pattern — planks, stairs, slabs, fences, doors, trapdoors, signs, buttons, pressure plates, boats and hanging signs — with the same hardness, the same fuel value and the same recipes as every other wood. Cherry leaves also drop pink petals when broken in the biome, and petals give pink dye.

Cherry Log is one of the 18 variants of this shape in the game. What changes between them is the material, and with it the hardness, the drops, the durability and the recipe — so every figure on this page is this variant's own. Oak Log is the same shape in a different material.
In Minecraft 1.21.4, Cherry Log is a wooden block. There is no way to craft it; you have to find it and mine it. Its hardness of 2 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.
Mining it returns the block itself, so it is safe to relocate. A blast resistance of 2 means a single creeper will clear it away. It stacks to 64.
Its main value is as a crafting ingredient: 6 recipes need it, Campfire, Cherry Planks, Cherry Wood and 3 more among them.

How to get it
Chop it in the cherry grove biome, which generates on mountain slopes usually between Y 100 and Y 140. A single sapling grows a tree anywhere with light level 9 and a 5x5 clearing.
Tips
- Take saplings home: cherry grows from 1 sapling anywhere, not just in the cherry grove.
- Its canopy spreads wide, so leave a 5x5 clearing or the tree will fail to grow.
- Pink petals from the biome floor give 1 pink dye each and regrow with bone meal on grass.
- Cherry planks are the only naturally pink wood, which saves dyeing concrete for the same effect.

Cherry groves, cherry wood and pink petals were all added in 1.20 (Trails & Tales) and are unchanged in 1.21.4.
How long it takes to break
At a hardness of 2, Cherry Log takes 3 seconds to punch out and 0.35 seconds with a netherite-tier tool of the correct class.
An iron tool takes 0.5 seconds and a diamond one 0.4, so the jump that actually matters for this block is the one to iron.
Nothing here needs a minimum tier: whatever you swing, the block still drops, and the only difference is how long it takes.
Efficiency adds its level squared plus one to the tool speed, so Efficiency V is about 3.5 times faster than the same tool unenchanted.

With 2 blast resistance Cherry Log goes down to any nearby explosion. It is fully opaque and produces no light. Stack size is 64 — the standard full stack. It renews, so a single world will never run out. Flammable, at encouragement 5 and burn 5: build with it away from lava, and do not use it as a wall you care about. The fastest tool for it is an axe; any other kind of tool mines it no faster than a bare hand does, because the speed bonus only applies to the tool class the block is tagged for. As furnace fuel it burns for 15 seconds — one and a half smelting operations.
