Overview
A Rabbit's Foot brews the Potion of Leaping, which raises jump height by half a block per level and reduces fall damage slightly — enough to clear a two-block step, hop between mountain ledges, and cross broken terrain without building. Jump Boost II from an enhanced potion clears three blocks, which changes how a mountain or a ravine edge is navigated, and speedrunners use it for exactly that. Beyond the potion, the foot has no other use, and it comes from an animal that is genuinely awkward to farm: rabbits drop it about 10% of the time, they spawn in small numbers in deserts, snowy plains, meadows and taigas, and they are quick and easily lost. Looting III raises the rate by a few percentage points and is worth having on the sword you hunt with. Breeding rabbits with carrots or dandelions is the practical route — a small pen turns a 10% drop into a reliable trickle, and it supplies raw rabbit for Rabbit Stew at the same time. A pen of six rabbits removes the whole problem in an afternoon of carrots.
Brewing Potions of Leaping for higher jumps and softer landings — the only source of the Jump Boost effect outside a suspicious stew or a beacon.
Rabbit's Foot is a brewing item in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot. You get it by killing Rabbit.
It is not used in any crafting recipe.
How to get it
Kill a rabbit; the foot drops about 10% of the time, rising roughly 3 percentage points per level of Looting. Breeding with carrots or dandelions makes the supply reliable.
Tips
- Jump Boost II clears a three-block step, which turns mountain terrain into something you walk rather than build over.
- Breed rabbits in a pen rather than hunting them; the 10% drop rate is painful in the wild.
- Leaping also reduces fall damage slightly, so it stacks usefully with Feather Falling boots.
- A cornflower Suspicious Stew gives Jump Boost too, if you only need a few seconds of it.
