Overview
Drinking a Milk Bucket removes every status effect you have, good or bad, instantly. That makes it the antidote to poison from a cave spider or a poisonous potato, to the Wither effect from a wither skeleton or the wither itself, to Nausea from a pufferfish, to Mining Fatigue in an ocean monument, and to Bad Omen before you accidentally walk into a village and start a raid. The catch is that it is indiscriminate: milk also strips your Strength, Regeneration, Fire Resistance and Night Vision, so drinking it mid-fight can cost more than the debuff was costing you. Getting it is free and repeatable — use an empty bucket on any cow, mooshroom or goat, and the animal is not consumed or harmed, so a two-cow pen is a permanent supply. Milk does not stack, which is the reason nobody carries six of them; one in the hotbar and one in the ender chest covers almost every case. It is also an ingredient in Cake, which needs three buckets of it and returns the empty buckets. Keep the cows near the kitchen and the bucket near the door.
Clearing poison, Wither, Nausea, Mining Fatigue, Blindness and Bad Omen on the spot, and supplying the 3 buckets a cake needs — the emergency button for status effects.
Milk Bucket is a tool item in Minecraft 1.21.4. It does not stack — each one takes its own slot. It goes into exactly one recipe: Cake.
How to get it
Use an empty Bucket on a cow, mooshroom or goat. There is no cooldown and the animal is unharmed, so 2 penned cows supply unlimited milk for the life of a world.
Tips
- Do not drink milk while you have Fire Resistance or Strength running; it removes those too and cannot be undone.
- Milk cancels Bad Omen, so drink it before entering a village unless you actually want to fight a raid.
- Carry one into an ocean monument: Mining Fatigue III is what makes those raids miserable.
- It does not stack, so plan on one slot each for the milk and the empty bucket you will be left holding.
