Overview

Quartz Bricks is one of the 7 variants of this shape in the game. What changes between them is the material, and with it the hardness, the drops, the durability and the recipe — so every figure on this page is this variant's own. Bricks is the same shape in a different material.

Quartz Bricks counts as a Nether block in Minecraft 1.21.4. A crafting table turns its ingredients into Quartz Bricks. Its hardness of 0.8 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.

Anything below a wooden pickaxe breaks it without leaving a drop. It drops as the same block you mined. With a blast resistance of only 0.8 it will not survive an explosion.

Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot. The recipe calls for Block of Quartz. A stonecutter can cut it straight from Block of Quartz, with nothing wasted.

Nothing on the crafting grid is made from it.

About the quartz set

How long it takes to break

Quartz Bricks sits at hardness 0.8: 4 seconds per block with your fists, 0.15 with the correct netherite tool.

Iron manages 0.2 seconds and diamond 0.15, which makes diamond the tier that changes how this block feels.

The block still breaks with a weaker tool, but below wooden it yields nothing at all — the time is spent and the drop is lost, which is the single most common way players waste a vein.

Efficiency contributes its level squared plus one to tool speed, which makes Efficiency V roughly 3 times faster than the plain tool.

Properties

Quartz Bricks has a blast resistance of 0.8, so any explosion nearby destroys it. It blocks light completely and emits no light of its own. One inventory slot holds 64, the normal full stack. The fastest tool for it is a pickaxe; any other kind of tool mines it no faster than a bare hand does, because the speed bonus only applies to the tool class the block is tagged for.
