Quartz Pillar — Minecraft block

Overview

Minecraft classifies Quartz Pillar as a Nether block. A crafting table turns its ingredients into Quartz Pillar. Its hardness of 0.8 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.

Anything below a wooden pickaxe breaks it without leaving a drop. It drops as the same block you mined. With a blast resistance of only 0.8 it will not survive an explosion.

Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot. The recipe calls for Block of Quartz. A stonecutter can cut it straight from Block of Quartz, with nothing wasted.

You will need it for Quartz Slab and Quartz Stairs.

How long it takes to break

Quartz Pillar sits at hardness 0.8: 4 seconds per block with your fists, 0.15 with the correct netherite tool.

Iron manages 0.2 seconds and diamond 0.15, which makes diamond the tier that changes how this block feels.

It will break below wooden, and you will get nothing for it. That combination of time spent and drop lost is the classic mining mistake.

Efficiency adds its level squared plus one to the tool speed, so Efficiency V is about 3 times faster than the same tool unenchanted.

Properties

Blast resistance on Quartz Pillar is 0.8, so any explosion nearby takes it out. It stops light entirely and gives off no light. A single slot takes 64, the usual full stack. A pickaxe is the fastest choice here. A tool of the wrong class is no better than your fist — the speed bonus is tied to the block's own tool tag.
