Overview

In Minecraft 1.21.4, Stone Bricks is a stone-family block. A crafting table turns its ingredients into Stone Bricks. Its hardness of 1.5 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.

Anything below a wooden pickaxe breaks it without leaving a drop. It drops as the same block you mined. It stacks to 64.

You make it with Stone. You can also cut it from Stone on a stonecutter. It is an ingredient in 6 recipes, among them Mossy Stone Bricks, Stone Brick Slab, Stone Brick Stairs and 3 more.

How long it takes to break

At a hardness of 1.5, Stone Bricks takes 7.5 seconds to punch out and 0.25 seconds with a netherite-tier tool of the correct class.

An iron tool takes 0.4 seconds and a diamond one 0.3, so the jump that actually matters for this block is the one to diamond.

The block still breaks with a weaker tool, but below wooden it yields nothing at all — the time is spent and the drop is lost, which is the single most common way players waste a vein.

Efficiency adds its level squared plus one to the tool speed, so Efficiency V is about 2.5 times faster than the same tool unenchanted.

Properties

Stone Bricks has a blast resistance of 6, so a nearby explosion will usually destroy it. It blocks light completely and emits no light of its own. A single slot takes 64, the usual full stack. A pickaxe is the fastest choice here. A tool of the wrong class is no better than your fist — the speed bonus is tied to the block's own tool tag.
