Polished Diorite Stairs — Minecraft block

Overview

In Minecraft 1.21.4, Polished Diorite Stairs is a stone-family block. A crafting table turns its ingredients into Polished Diorite Stairs. Its hardness of 1.5 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.

Anything below a wooden pickaxe breaks it without leaving a drop. It drops as the same block you mined. It stacks to 64.

You make it with Polished Diorite. You can also cut it from Diorite on a stonecutter. It is not used in any crafting recipe.

How long it takes to break

Hardness 1.5 puts Polished Diorite Stairs at 7.5 seconds a block bare-handed, or 0.25 seconds with the right tool at netherite tier.

You are looking at 0.4 seconds on iron and 0.3 on diamond — the diamond step is where the time actually falls.

The block still breaks with a weaker tool, but below wooden it yields nothing at all — the time is spent and the drop is lost, which is the single most common way players waste a vein.

The Efficiency formula is level² + 1 added to tool speed — at V that is about 2.5 times the unenchanted rate.
