Overview

Polished Diorite Slab counts as a stone-family block in Minecraft 1.21.4. A crafting table turns its ingredients into Polished Diorite Slab. Its hardness of 1.5 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.

Anything below a wooden pickaxe breaks it without leaving a drop. It drops as the same block you mined. It stacks to 64.

You make it with Polished Diorite. You can also cut it from Diorite on a stonecutter. It is not used in any crafting recipe.

How long it takes to break

At a hardness of 1.5, Polished Diorite Slab takes 7.5 seconds to punch out and 0.25 seconds with a netherite-tier tool of the correct class.

An iron tool takes 0.4 seconds and a diamond one 0.3, so the jump that actually matters for this block is the one to diamond.

The block still breaks with a weaker tool, but below wooden it yields nothing at all — the time is spent and the drop is lost, which is the single most common way players waste a vein.

Each Efficiency level adds level² + 1 to the tool's speed, so a level V tool clears this about 2.5 times faster than an unenchanted one.
