Polished Andesite — Minecraft block

Overview

Polished Andesite is a stone-family block in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. A crafting table turns its ingredients into Polished Andesite. Its hardness of 1.5 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.

Anything below a wooden pickaxe breaks it without leaving a drop. It drops as the same block you mined. It stacks to 64.

You make it with Andesite. You can also cut it from Andesite on a stonecutter. It is used to craft Polished Andesite Slab and Polished Andesite Stairs.

How long it takes to break

At a hardness of 1.5, Polished Andesite takes 7.5 seconds to punch out and 0.25 seconds with a netherite-tier tool of the correct class.

You are looking at 0.4 seconds on iron and 0.3 on diamond — the diamond step is where the time actually falls.

The block still breaks with a weaker tool, but below wooden it yields nothing at all — the time is spent and the drop is lost, which is the single most common way players waste a vein.

Efficiency contributes its level squared plus one to tool speed, which makes Efficiency V roughly 2.5 times faster than the plain tool.

Properties

Polished Andesite resists blasts at 6, which usually is not enough when something explodes nearby. Light does not pass through it, and it emits none of its own. Stack size is 64 — the standard full stack. A pickaxe is fastest here; any other class mines it at bare-hand speed, because the bonus only applies to the class the block is tagged for.
