Block of Gold — Minecraft block

Overview

Block of Gold is a building block in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. Block of Gold is made at a crafting table. Hardness 3 puts it in the middle of the pack for mining speed.

Mine it with an iron pickaxe or better, or you get no drop at all. Broken correctly, it drops itself. Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot.

The recipe calls for Gold Ingot. It is not used in any crafting recipe.

How long it takes to break

Hardness 3 puts Block of Gold at 15 seconds a block bare-handed, or 0.5 seconds with the right tool at netherite tier.

Iron takes 0.75 seconds against diamond's 0.6, so the upgrade worth making for this block is the one to iron.

The block still breaks with a weaker tool, but below iron it yields nothing at all — the time is spent and the drop is lost, which is the single most common way players waste a vein.

The Efficiency formula is level² + 1 added to tool speed — at V that is about 3.3 times the unenchanted rate.

Properties

Block of Gold has a blast resistance of 6, so a nearby explosion will usually destroy it. It blocks light completely and emits no light of its own. 64 fit in a slot — a full stack. The fastest tool for it is a pickaxe; any other kind of tool mines it no faster than a bare hand does, because the speed bonus only applies to the tool class the block is tagged for.
