Overview
In Minecraft 1.21.4, Cave Vines Plant is a building block. This is a Creative-mode block; Survival players will never hold one. It breaks almost instantly, with a hardness of just 0.
You can break it by hand without losing the drop. It is transparent, which matters when you are managing light levels. With a blast resistance of only 0 it will not survive an explosion.
Nothing on the crafting grid is made from it.
How long it takes to break
Cave Vines Plant has a hardness of 0. By hand that is 0 seconds per block; with the correct tool at netherite tier it is 0 seconds.
No particular tool tier is required: any tool, or none at all, still yields the drop, so the table below is about speed rather than about whether you get anything.
The Efficiency formula is level² + 1 added to tool speed, which on a block this soft tips over into instant mining very early.
| Tool | No enchantment | Efficiency III | Efficiency V |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hand | instant | instant | instant |
| Wooden | instant | instant | instant |
| Stone | instant | instant | instant |
| Iron | instant | instant | instant |
| Diamond | instant | instant | instant |
| Netherite | instant | instant | instant |
| Golden | instant | instant | instant |
Properties
Cave Vines Plant resists blasts at 0, which is not enough to survive anything explosive nearby. Light passes through it, and it emits none of its own. The fastest tool for it is an axe; any other kind of tool mines it no faster than a bare hand does, because the speed bonus only applies to the tool class the block is tagged for.
