Cave Vines counts as a building block in Minecraft 1.21.4. This is a Creative-mode block; Survival players will never hold one. It breaks almost instantly, with a hardness of just 0.

You can break it by hand without losing the drop. It is transparent, which matters when you are managing light levels. With a blast resistance of only 0 it will not survive an explosion.

Properties

Cave Vines resists blasts at 0, which is not enough to survive anything explosive nearby. Light passes through it, and it emits none of its own. An axe is the fastest choice here. A tool of the wrong class is no better than your fist — the speed bonus is tied to the block's own tool tag.
