Overview

Minecraft classifies Bamboo as a plant block. There is no way to craft it; you have to find it and mine it. Its hardness of 1 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.

You can break it by hand without losing the drop. It drops as the same block you mined. Light passes through it, so it will not darken the space behind it.

It offers almost no protection from explosions (1 blast resistance). A full stack holds 64. It is used to craft Block of Bamboo, Scaffolding, and Stick.

About the bamboo set

How long it takes to break

Hardness 1 puts Bamboo at 1.5 seconds a block bare-handed, or 0.2 seconds with the right tool at netherite tier.

Iron takes 0.25 seconds against diamond's 0.2, so the upgrade worth making for this block is the one to iron.

Nothing here needs a minimum tier: whatever you swing, the block still drops, and the only difference is how long it takes.

Each Efficiency level adds level² + 1 to the tool's speed, so a level V tool clears this about 4 times faster than an unenchanted one.

Properties

With 1 blast resistance Bamboo goes down to any nearby explosion. It is transparent to light and produces no light. 64 fit in a slot — a full stack. It is renewable, so one world can supply as much of it as you want. Flammable, at encouragement 15 and burn 100: build with it away from lava, and do not use it as a wall you care about. The fastest tool for it is an axe; any other kind of tool mines it no faster than a bare hand does, because the speed bonus only applies to the tool class the block is tagged for. As furnace fuel it burns for 2.5 seconds — 0.3 smelting operations.
