Overview
Nether Quartz is the redstone engineer's raw material and one of the best white building blocks in the game, which is an unusual combination. On the redstone side it is the ingredient in comparators, observers and daylight detectors — three components without which item sorters, automatic farms and most clock circuits cannot be built at all — so a serious redstone project starts with a quartz trip. On the building side, four quartz make a Block of Quartz, which is the cleanest white block available and comes in pillar, chiseled, brick and smooth variants that cover an entire architectural palette. Ore generates throughout the Nether in ordinary netherrack at any height, in large quantities, and drops one quartz per block with any pickaxe — 2 to 4 with Fortune III — which makes a single Nether mining session worth several stacks. Because netherrack breaks almost instantly, quartz mining is fast: a tunnel along a fortress corridor or across a nether waste picks up hundreds without much effort. Bring a Fire Resistance potion and mine along a straight line at a comfortable height.

- Take a Fortune III pickaxe to the Nether; quartz ore multiplies exactly like Overworld ores do.
