Overview
Eating a Chorus Fruit teleports you up to 8 blocks in a random direction, and that single strange property is worth more than the 4 hunger it restores. The teleport looks for a safe landing spot within that radius, so it will not drop you inside solid rock or into the void — which makes it a genuinely useful escape from a mob crowd, a way out of a hole, and the only food in the game that can accidentally solve a navigation problem. It can also be eaten at full hunger, so the teleport is always available. Chorus plants grow on the End's outer islands, and breaking any part of a plant drops the fruit, so one visit to an end city area supplies stacks. Smelting the fruit gives a Popped Chorus Fruit, which crafts into purpur blocks — the End's purple building set — and that is where most of a hoard ends up. Do not eat one near a ravine or above lava unless you are willing to find out where you land. Used deliberately, it is an escape hatch; used carelessly, it is a very short holiday.
An emergency short-range teleport that works at full hunger, and — smelted into popped chorus fruit — the raw material for the entire purpur building set.
As food, Chorus Fruit is judged on two numbers: hunger restored and saturation. It gives back 4 hunger and 2.4 saturation. It is not simply food, though: eating it also teleports you up to 8 blocks at random.
Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot. The one thing it makes is Popped Chorus Fruit.
How to get it
Break a chorus plant on the End's outer islands; each plant part drops 0 to 1 fruit and they grow back on their own. Eating 1 teleports you up to 8 blocks to a safe landing spot.
Tips
- The teleport only lands you somewhere safe, so it will not drop you into lava or inside a wall.
- It works at full hunger, which makes it the one food you can always eat for its effect alone.
- Do not eat one while gliding or standing on a ledge unless you are prepared to land somewhere random.
- Smelt the surplus into popped chorus fruit for purpur blocks; four of them make four purpur blocks.
